How would you respond if you were an amateur game developer and a publisher approached you about remaking one of your freeware games for a home console? If you were ABA Games' Kenta Cho, you'd dismiss the publisher and your own game in a supreme act of powerful nonchalance.
When Majesco announced that a version of TUMIKI Fighters was being made for the Wii, we kind of assumed that Kenta Cho himself would be involved in its creation, or, at the very least, at the receiving end of a nice check. Why wouldn't we assume that? But apparently that is not the case.
The original game is under a BSD license, which means that anyone can use it, even commercially, as long as they include the proper copyright notice, and they don't use Cho's name to endorse it without permission. And that means that Majesco can just pick up this game and set Budcat Creations to work on a new version. They don't even need permission, because Cho put it (nea...

This week, Japan got three games that we don't have yet in the US-- no surprise there. But we already had Splatterhouse on our Virtual Console, so we totally win in that one specific competition that isn't really a competition.
The non-Splatterhouse games include another shooter, a Paleolithic puzzle game that we'd never heard of, and a completely awesome ninja game that we'd love to see over here ASAP. And, since it did come out over here (as Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master), we are not crazy to expect it!
Star Soldier (Famicom, 1 player, 500 Wii points)
Flappy (Famicom, 1-2 players, 500 Wii points)
The Super Shinobi II (Mega Drive, 1 player, 600 Wii points)
Splatterhouse (PC Engine, 1 player, 600 Wii points)

Sure, we wouldn't take the Soup Nazi's claim that Samus' latest jaunt will not include Wi-Fi multiplayer as truth, but when Michael Kelbeugh, the main man over at Retro Studios, says so, then we kind of take it as fact. And, that's exactly what he said in an interview with GamePro recently, dashing hopes here at Wii Fanboy Estates that the small delay the game has received was so that online multiplayer could be tweaked.
So, why no online multiplayer in a game that is begging for it? Mikey K. (it's alright, we're BFF) says it's so the single-player campaign can be the best it can be, stating "It's something we talked about early on, but we only have so many resources. We opted to devote those resources to making a better single-player experience." We're sure the single-player portion of the game will rock our socks right off our feet, neatly fold them and place them in our top dresser drawer, but we don't think it'll...

Every Tuesday, Mike Sylvester brings you REVOLUTIONARY, a look at the wide world of Wii possibilities.
I was going to jump right into writing another script with you this week, but as development progressed, I remembered how much time I wasted on my first scripts because I didn't have a handle on exactly what motions were triggering the responses I was after. I figured I'd be doing you a disservice if I didn't take time out to get you primed on the nomenclature of all the motions and get you started in thinking in 3 dimensions.
Last week we wrote a simple script that didn't use the Wiimote's motion detecting functionality. Some might say that defeats the purpose of using the Wiimote, but is that really what the Wiimote is about? The different input options are there to give the developer choices. Sometimes the developer will throw in lots of alternatives and pass th...

We say it is! No More Heroes is the pinnacle of Wii awesomeness. Unfortunately the G4 website is the nadir of annoying Flash navigation. You have to click "Videos," then the X-Play icon, then the No More Heroes link. But once you've jumped through all those hoops-- beautiful gameplay footage. And English voice acting!
No More Heroes looks as stylish and cool in motion as it does in stills. Sword combat looks great, with insane duels ending in explosions of blood. It looks like a real action game-- much more so than Killer 7. The motion-controlled Beam Katana charging is, well, inspired. The wrestling moves appear numerous. And then, as if merely to fill space, there's a surprise Suda 51 interview.
No, there's no explanation of the tiger graphic. Yes, we're a little disappointed too.

This feels weird. Finally we get some news about Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and it's not via the official "Super Smash DOJO" website like the previous twenty-something updates.
Over at Game Life, a media relations rep at Nintendo just dropped the Garlic Bomb: Super Smash Bros. Brawl will not be playable at E3, but in the same breath of air, the same rep reassures everyone that the game is still coming out this year, as promised.
The reason for this is that Nintendo's trying to gear everyone up for certain Wii titles that have never been revealed before. Makes sense, right? Smash is already getting lots of hype and can possibly do well propped on its own two feet. Maybe it's time to turn the spotlight over to other games we can be excited about?
Well, we always thought that Smash, Galaxy, and Prime composed the Holy Trinity of Nintendo's lineup during the tradeshow. Now with Smash ducking out, does this mean that Mario and Samus won't be on the floor with their ...

It's already been a week since our last Chart Track update and given the short lapse, a lot has changed. New to the list ending June 30 is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, whose multi-platform launch last week sees it performing a "Wingardium Leviosa" to UK's number one post.
Following closely along is The Darkness (PS3, Xbox 360), whose similarly timed launch schedule puts it at second place. Shrek the Third takes third, while Forza Motorsport 2 has moved down to sixth. Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training (DS) has dropped to 12th, after being replaced by More Brain Training From Dr. Kawashima at fifth place, while Spider-Man 3 has gone down to the 11th spot.

The Xbox 360 console is definitely enjoying GameFly's spotlight lately, as Darkness takes center stage for the third time in the rental company's most requested released and to-be-released games chart ending July 2. Carried along (by imps) in second place for the week is Overlord, with third place going to Transformers: The Game. Transformers replaces DiRT for this post.
Resident Evil 4 retains its top rank from last week for the Wii games, as does Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PlayStation 3, Sim City DS for the DS, and Final Fantasy: Anniversary Edition for the PSP. On an interesting note, Lumines makes its appearance for the PSP's top five. We can only assume that this is connected to the recent exploit discovered by the Noobz team, which dramatically boosted sales for this said game.

If you haven't played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64 before (yes, we believe there are quite a handful of you mere mortals existing out there who haven't yet) and still thinking about getting its Virtual Console port, look no further. Those 1000 Wii Points are more than worth it. Because for almost ten years since the game was released, Ocarina of Time stands as one of the best games ever released.
EDGE magazine has compiled votes from thousands of its readers, looking for the best game in the span of three full decades. And despite it being nearly ten years old already, common sentiment holds that the game is nothing but classic. "Great game design does not age," says EDGE EIC Tony Mott, in a press release announcing their 260-page collector's book "EDGE Presents: The 100 Best Videogames."
Mott continues, "In visual terms, [Ocarina of Time] obviously cannot compete with today's Xbox 360 and PS3 productions, but, as with many classics, it...

The Star Carnival is parading down the Rainbow Road with bits of confetti, coins a-plenty, and mustachioed plumbers. Mario and the gang just hit record sales with the latest installment in the Hudson Soft-developed virtual game board series. Mario Party 8 was just announced to have bagged some Star Shines itself.
Following its May 29 release in the US, Mario Party 8 has now sold over 550,000 copies. Nintendo's now clocked it at as the all-time fast-selling title in the franchise. George Harrison of Nintendo of America capped the press release with:
The overwhelming response not only reminds us how much fans absolutely love the Mario Party franchise but also proves the unmatched ability of the Wii system to attract new players. Wii users are keeping the Mario Party going strong.
