THQ has brought forth their intention to publish a new game for the Wii, titled de Blob. The game, which will be developed by Blue Tongue and Helixe, was a IGF student game finalist and falls into the action puzzle category. de Blob tasks players with spreading color, so that they may "liberate an alien city from the evil, monochromatic I.N.K.T. Corporation."
de Blob is currently slated for a February 2008 release.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

We recently reported that Atari would show a Jenga game at E3. We wondered if it was going to be just Jenga or some kind of expanded game based on the concept of Jenga. It's just Jenga.
What does the Wii bring to the table (so to speak) that the original game doesn't have? Well, the ability to play Jenga on top of a castle, or in front of a lighthouse, or in someone's living room-- and the ability to do so as an icon of a snowman.
Where Wii Jenga fails and real Jenga exceeds, however, is in the graphics. The original Jenga's wood texture looks absolutely lifelike, while the texture is quite blurry and unrealistic on the Wii.

The Japanese website for Konami's upcoming Wii installment in their incredibly huge rhythm-based franchise Dance Dance Revolution has launched. The Wii installment, Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party, doesn't have much going for it on its website, at the moment, but this is sure to change fairly soon. We're dying to see a demonstration of using all three peripherals at once, as we cannot possibly imagine how it could be done.

Hope you're in the mood for sequels today, because if you're itching for a new retro title, that's what Nintendo's offering up, at least when it comes to Sega. A couple of today's titles were also released in the U.S. this week, which means you can check out the video wrap-up for a little game footage.
Also, for some reason the format of the releases on the Nintendo Europe site seems to have changed, so let us know if these costs are not correct -- we're basing this off past VC pricing.
Dragon Spirit -- TurboGrafx -- 600 Wii points
Ecco: The Tides of Time -- Sega Mega Drive -- 800 Wii points
Golden Axe II -- Sega Mega Drive -- 800 Wii points

We've seen loads upon loads of Godzilla: Unleashed screenshots and read loads more of info about the upcoming Wii video game. Today, we've got a trailer for Atari and Pipeworks Software's giant radioactive monster game.
Honestly, the trailer looks eerily like the old Toho movies where the ginormous monsters step into a populated city and just, well... stomp away ( insert vision of running and screaming people here ). In the trailer, we see Godzilla in all his city destroying glory, bashing up buildings and enemies as well. We also see the stats and factions of Anguirus, Gigan, and Kiryu (a.k.a. Mechagodzilla).
At any rate, check out the video. We can't really say anything much about Godzilla: Unleashed for now, but the trailer is a good deal of fun. Enjoy!

Included in the vid are snippets of the previously mentioned "WHOA Coasters" that'll keep passengers glued to their seats as they leap through the air. Also to watch out for are glimpses of the new mini-games that'll keep you occupied in case you're taking a break from the big building. Enjoy the video!

By way of press wire, game publisher THQ is officially announcing that de Blob is indeed being readied for release not only for the Nintendo Wii, but the DS as well. And no, there's no spelling error - the company's decided to keep the original Dutch name instead of its English translation "The Blob."
Naming details aside, THQ has also explained the game's story. Players will take the form of a giant paint blob whose task is to explore, liberate and revitalize Chroma City, which has been drained of all color by the evil I.N.K.T. (inked?) Corporation.
de Blob's Wii and DS versions are both expected to make use of each console's unique control style. In line with this official announcement, THQ's executive Vice President Kelly Flock had this to say:
In the spirit of some of Nintendo's most innovative properties, de Blob's simple game mechanic will be fun and easy for core and casual gamers to learn and reveal unbelievably addicting levels of depth and complexi...

Independence Day aside, July 4 marks the canonization of Saint Ulrich of Augsburg, Saladin defeated Guy of Lusignan, the abolition of slavery in the state of New York, and the day Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was published.
But for otakus, hardcore and casual gamers, it could only mean one thing - it's time for Anime Expo. People who were able to join Anime Expo '07 definitely had a blast, but we can get our share of fun by looking at these cosplay snapshots from Siliconera.
On the left is what Siliconera brands as the best Final Fantasy related costume at the show. Looking at the detail put into it: the wings, and metal claw very close to Vincent's FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus look, saying so ain't a far shot. On the right is a bunch of Solid Snake wannabes, along with other cast from the Metal Gear Solid series. Props go to the Metal Gear Solid 4 version of Snake for looking the part, and we give special mention to the poor guy under the box.
