The video game Samurai Slash has really come a long way, or at least it has in terms of changing its official name. The title somewhat sounds new because Koei just recently replaced the name Samurai Warriors Katana. Prior to that, it was known as Sengoku Musou Wave.
Regardless of its official title though, fans can expect to see a familiar gameplay and overall feel to the game as it is actually a spin-off of the long-running and successful franchise Dynasty Warriors. Players will be swinging the Wiimote as if it's a sword to defeat hordes of soldiers in order to restore peace and rescue the civilians.
Samurai Slash should have been released in Japan last December but it was ultimately delayed due to unspecified reasons. According to French gaming site Wiiz, it should be released on the said region come September 20, with the U.S. release coming soon after that. While waiting, just enjoy this new batch of screenshots.

Despite rumors that Nintendo would make themselves present for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, the harsh reality is that the company is not going to have a presence there. Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that we won't get our fill of Wii-related goodies from the show, just none of said goodies will be official Nintendo treats. Sadly, that's the thing most of us want, as we'd love to see updated looks at Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

"Maybe next year sometime, we may have new characters in the same way we came up with Pikmin when we introduced the GameCube."
These were Miyamoto's remarks to Dean Takahashi during E3 this year, as Dean manages to get his lengthy interview online. During the interview, Miyamoto touches on a variety of subjects, focusing most on Wii Fit, naturally, but does stray to discuss other things about his work life at Nintendo. And, while the remainder of the interview is interesting, as with most times Miyamoto conducts one, we can't help but come back to that quote up top there.
What kind of new characters could we be seeing? What new franchise (or, dare we say, franchises) are we going to be looking to in the future for those fun experiences Nintendo is so wonderful at providing?

What makes this so comical to us is how the nunchuk and Wiimote are situated in their plastic device in the way that we naturally hold them anyway. So, what is the point for such an accessory? There really isn't one, we imagine, but like the kid that was dropped off right at the front of the school and had to kiss his mom goodbye back in our younger days, we felt the need to point and laugh at this thing.
Even if the thing is only $13, we can't imagine anyone actually needing or wanting it.

Today we've got a developer walkthrough video for the Wii build of LucasArts' Thrillville: Off The Rails. You Wii owners out there who want to get a copy when it comes out should check out the vid below as it focuses on how the Wiimote can be used to build rollercoaster tracks.
Speaking of rollercoaster tracks, the video also includes a look at some of the WHOA! pieces. The WHOA! pieces include some pretty nifty track additions that you'll never find on a real rollercoaster track such as the Candy Drop, which shoots the coaster into the air and lets it land back onto the tracks. Pretty cool.
Anyway, check out the vid. Thrillville: Off The Rails is slated for an October release for the DS, PC, PS2, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360 gaming platforms.

Xensory Games just announced today the release of a new flash game for Wii's Opera browser called Catch a Falling Star. This particular game is quite different from the previous ones we've covered because it is the first one to support four-way multiplay with the use of four Wiimotes.
The following was lifted directly from the email sent by Xensory: "Xensory Games is the first to complete integration of the Opera Wiimote API into Flash and will be releasing additional games imminently which will take advantage of the tilt and distance tracking afforded".
Like we said, Catch a Falling Star allows four players slugging it out in one console at once. The objective of the game, just like the title implies, is to catch as most stars as possible using a Wiimote. Gameplay is just as simple as point-and-click and the game is composed of five different rounds.
The Read link below will take you to Xensory Games' titles page where you can give Catch a Falling Star a ...

Every Tuesday, Mike Sylvester brings you REVOLUTIONARY, a look at the wide world of Wii possibilities.
Going by the company's success of late, neophytes might assume that Nintendo was always looked at as the redemptive innovator of the games industry. But some time around the midpoint of the Super Nintendo's life cycle, the popular sentiment started turning to "a trend isn't cool until Nintendo bucks it." Nintendo fans were two generations behind in getting an optical drive. We played grayscaled, unlit Gameboys for years while our friends dumped battery after battery into their Lynx's, Turbo Express Portables, Neo Geo Pocket Colors, and Game Gears. Even today, we're still ravening for Nintendo-flavored online gaming.
Nintendo's first 3D console didn't come out until a year after Sony's, and 18 months after Sega's, so while my SNES delivered 2D nirvana i...

After only a five month lag since its U.S. and Japanese releases, Nintendo announced today that Super Paper Mario for the Wii will be released across the continent of Europe on September 14, 2007.
In case you haven't had a chance to pick the game up, it's quite delectable and well worth checking out. One of its strongest points in the American version was its witty, tongue-in-cheek localization courtesy of head translator Nate Bihldorff. Given that Final Fantasy and other relatively text-heavy games often take far longer than this to translate into one language (English), it's rather impressive that NOE can ready this game for release in at least five (UK English, French, German, Spanish and Italian) in as many months. If their work can stand up to the quality of the U.S. localization, Europeans should be in for a tasty treat, indeed.
