There's a recent article in the latest issue of "Women's Health" magazine that talks about one great way for couples to bond. Since this is a gaming blog, you know what we're going to say, right?
Yep. Their advice is for you and your significant other to bond over video games!
While most of the article is filled with double entendres and other sexually suggestive phrases (it's titled, "Grab the Joystick: Toy with your Man in the Virtual World"), they do cite someone who should know about these sorts of things. Susan K. Perry, Ph.D. states that, "Playing video games allows you to bond and learn how to problem-solve as a team." Perry is a Los Angeles-based social psychologist.
The rest of the article suggests some games you guys can both try out, such as Guitar Hero II and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, but there's no mention of any Wiimote fun from relationship-fostering Wii games like Wii Sports at all. Still, lay off the overly addictive qualities of World of...

Logic Japan has busted out a couple of new monitors for those who prefer to keep things more modest, announcing matching 19 and 17-inch models set for release later this month. Both feature a 2 mm thick slice of a specialized hardened glass, which supposedly reduces glare and improves contrast, as well as adding an extra layer of protection to prevent damage (though we still wouldn't recommend testing it with a flying Wiimote). The 17-inch model also adds a selectable privacy setting, which apparently reduces the viewing angle of the monitor to prevent passerbys from snooping on what you're doing. Otherwise, the monitors are fairly run-of-the-mill, each boasting a 1280 x 1024 resolution, 300cd/m² brightness, and a 700:1 contrast ratio, with a 6 ms response time on the 19-inch and 5 ms on the 17-inch. The 17-incher also adds a DVI input, while the larger model just gives you plain old VGA.

Nintendo's stock has been going up like ... like, um ... like Apple's stock! But not even the bookies could predict such a dominating performance (sorry, I just couldn't resist that link ... go Gators!), and as such, Nintendo has had to once again raises its profits forecast thanks to extremely strong game sales for both the Nintendo DS and the Wii. How much, you ask? One billion dollars. That's USD, folks.
We also have a gem of a quote from one Edwin Merner, president of Atlantis Investment Research Corp. in Tokyo: "Nintendo is going like gangbusters, and the Wii consoles are selling like hotcakes." Gangbusters, huh? According to UrbanDictionary.com, a gangbuster is: "a sexual advance made by someone in an attempt to turn on another person." Hot, Edwin. Very hot.Read | Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

Has your Wii Sports experience gone from exciting to stale? Apparently that's the case for some, as is exhibited in the amusing video embedded after the jump. So tell us -- are you still bouncing around all willy-nilly, or have you figured out that you can just as easily Wii while slumped on the couch with a beer in one hand?

Who wants seconds? For those who have already had their fill of the lasagna cook-off video, here's a question: What goes with pasta? Barring our favorite brand of red wine, the answer is a big, steaming bowl of soup. And to help us along on making the brew, we have another Cooking Mama video popping up at CES.
And once again, we'll be taking at look at the game's Wiimote interface. Of special note is Mama's voice cues, which appear to have a strong Engrish accent. One a last note, we seem to have made a mistake on the release date: It's March 12, not January 12. We apologize for any problems this botch-up may have caused.

As we reach the middle of January, analysts are busy tallying and talking about their next-gen consoles December sales data and estimates. Wedbush Morgan Securities is now saying that next-gen consoles sales may have broken the 3 million mark as they are speculating that 1.3 million Wii hardware units, 600,000 PS3s, and 1.2 million Xbox 360s were sold last December.
This estimate now leads to a US$927.5 million in sales contribution from gaming platforms such as the next-gen consoles, the PSP, and NDS. It also represents a 183 or $600 million year-over-year growth. Now that's a whole lotta dough going around in the biz!
On the software sales side of things, WMS mentioned that December U.S. retail software sales should be up by 15 year on year. The sales growth for softwares isn't stopping there as they are also saying that there would be a 25 monthly software sales in January and February of this year. On the other hand, WMS expects that current generatio...

This cracks us up. Before, Bill Gates said that Sony was their direct competitor, viewing Nintendo and their console as nothing more than a cute novelty. Now that the numbers are coming in and everyone wants a Wii (y'know, cuz it's fun), Bill is changing his story and is now viewing Nintendo "as the toughest competition." Bill says this during a Japanese interview, which has been You Tubed and embedded past the post break.

This is fun. We reported yesterday that to stop endless speculations, Nintendo UK released a list of VC titles with a breakdown of how many will appear on each specific system. This time, Sega of America announced that 10 new titles are actually available for download now. If that isn't enough to make you smile, well, we don't know anymore what will.
Anyway, most of these titles originally came out during the early 90's with a couple of them dating back to the late 80's. And so we will be including a brief description of each title to help you remember them. Prices to download the Sega titles begin at 800 Wii points.
Titles Currently Available:
Sonic The Hedgehog: Rocket Sonic, the fastest blue hedgehog on earth, through hair-raising loop-de-loops and dizzying dives past bubbling lava, waterfalls and on as you gather up rings and stop Dr. "Ivo" Robotnik's schemes for world domination!Altered Beast: When Greek god Zeus brings you back to life, you set fort...

One of the greatest things about the new crop of consoles: wireless controllers standard. The obvious downside: batteries. Nyko has stepped up to deliver solutions for both of the latest consoles. First up is the Charge Base for PlayStation 3. Because the SIXAXIS controllers already come with built-in lithium-ion batteries, this puppy just charges and stores. You'll be able to charge and store up to four controllers by jacking the thing into an ordinary wall outlet. The Charge Station for Wii not only stores and charges two Wiimotes but includes two rechargeable NiMH batteries with rubberized battery covers (to help keep you from throwing it into your plasma we presume). We haven't got prices for either of these offerings but consider the Wii's propensity for gobbling batteries when weighing that product.

We weren't sure why the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences decided to give Sony's evolutionary SIXAXIS controller a Technology and Engineering Emmy and, evidently, neither were they. After Sony blasted out a press release proudly proclaiming the honor -- and after the internet rubbed its collective eyes raw -- we've learned that Sony wasn't alone in receiving an honor from the Academy. The list of Emmy Award winners for "Peripheral Development and Technological Impact of Video Game Controllers" include Sony Computer Entertainment of America and ... Nintendo! Did Nintendo's innovative Wiimote share the honor with the motion-sensing SIXAXIS? Not quite ... Séamus at Hydrapinion did some legwork and discovered that, while Sony had won an Emmy for Technology and Engineering, it wasn't for the SIXAXIS. Instead, Christine Chin from NATAS confirmed that Sony's Dual Shock as well as Nintendo's D-Pad (NES pad?) w...
